About English River First Nation

English River First Nation (Denesuline: Des Nëdhë́'iné, meaning "People of the Great River") is a proud Dene First Nation located in Patuanak, Saskatchewan. We have been the stewards of our traditional territory along the Churchill River for countless generations.

Our community is part of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council and we signed Treaty 10 in 1906. With over 1,833 members, we are one of the largest First Nations in northern Saskatchewan. Our territory spans 19 reserves covering over 25,000 hectares across the pristine boreal forest of the Canadian Shield.

As People of the Great River, we are known for our bold and collaborative spirit, our self-sufficient nature, and our deep connection to the land. We are dedicated to the stewardship of our territory and the education of future generations in both traditional knowledge and modern skills.

Our Chief and Council maintain an open door policy, welcoming community members to voice their concerns and participate in our governance. We are committed to preserving our Dene culture, language, and traditions while embracing opportunities for economic development and community growth.
